Welcome to the Saint Leonard's Society of Nova Scotia (SLSNS)

The Saint Leonard's Society of Nova Scotia (SLSNS) is a not-for-profit, charitable organization responsible for the operation of homeless shelters and community residential  facilities (CRF's) in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Our facilities and services include:  Sir Sanford Fleming House, Barry House, Nehiley Houseand during the winter months- Pendleton Place.  To learn more about each, please click on the link to the left hand side.

Our multi-faceted website was designed to provide our viewers with an insight not only into what we do, but who we are.  Visitors are encouraged to navigate the website while Board Members and Staff are also welcome to utilize the password protected sections to access forms, Policy and Procedure information, and copies of meeting minutes and other documents where available.

 

Goals of the Saint Leonard's Society of Nova Scotia:

To assist an individuals rehabilitation after conflict with the law and prevent recidivism by facilitating member agencies to provide educational programs, industrial workshops, and other supportive programs as approved by the Directors of the Society.
bulletTo prevent crime by promoting, developing and implementing improved policies, procedures and service delivery within the criminal justice system in concert with Correctional Services of Canada.

To promote acceptance of responsibility and accountability by persons in conflict with the law, in order to change behavior that contributes to crime.

To help the community understand its responsibility in both the incidence of crime and in the manner in which society responds to it.
bulletTo provide a safe and healthy environment for women and children who are either homeless or in an emergency situation
bulletTo provide supports to enable these women to establish stable housing and become self-reliant.

To provide the people who are experiencing homelessness in metro Halifax with a winter shelter, accommodating those who, for a variety of reasons, are not accepted into other shelters in the area.
bulletTo advocate for those who are rehabilitating and/or less than fortunate and to promote understanding within our community of the importance of support for those individuals to help with successful recovery.

The Saint Leonard's Society of Nova Scotia is funded in part by Correctional Services of Canada and the Department of Community Services.  We are always in need and welcome donations and support from the community.
